Fantastic Beasts : The Secrets of Dumbledore

Yesterday, after a long while the husband and I went out for a movie outing . Here is a part that I really loved and wanted to share.  Albus Dumbledore while he was young was  too ambitious and wanted to take over the world in his own terms that he neglected his family. His sister Arina gets killed on a duel in the presence of his brother Abe. Brother Abe had a son called Aurelius Dumbledore who felt so lonely and was mostly used by the evil people like Grindlewald. In this context a frosty relationship existed between Abe and Dumbledore . Albus was hurting a lot on what happened in the past and he couldnot forgive himself or address the issue with Abeforth.

This movie has a beautiful scene where Grindlewald tries to kill Aurelius and Albus Dumbledore saves him.. A beautiful dialogue is said by Newt Scamander here. "We can make things right and that is what matters".

It is never too late to be the change!! Let us create a bit of positivity around by being the change :)

When I paused chasing - Goa Travelogue

In life many times I keep chasing something or the other. Either it is ensuring the kid is fed on time, or rushing to work on time, or completing a project before the deadline or keeping regularly scheduled tasks completed as per requirement on time.. Some days I feel that I need a pause button somewhere so that I stop running around and start taking in one moment at a time! And then it happened for three magical days..

Thanks to my workplace for gifting me a trip to Goa.. Ideally it had to be a trip with work colleagues, but the bosses approved to take family and also sponsored tickets and stay for them. This was extremely nice of them.. Having a two and a half year old kid in tow, I had to play catch up with the speed of my bachelor and newly married colleagues.. But this time I let go of the catch up and chasing game.. For 3 days, I merely soaked myself of the experience of being in a beautiful place and that is it!! It has been quite a while since I have updated this space..So I thought..why not capture the wonderful experience of my maiden visit to Goa here..

Goa has still preserved her natural beauty to some extent though now we have real estate rearing its ugly head in this gem of a place..The sea and the forest all entwined close to each other..It has the charm of the Indo-European architecture and cuisine so much in abundance.. In the course of my brief span of stay, I also bumped on artists in every gully weaving his/her own dreams unapologetically..

One simple rule helped us sail through the trip comfortably - our priority one was kiddo's comfort.. We may have faltered at few moments..But overall I was happy by the way we did this trip..This was kiddo's maiden trip sans grandparents.. So the onus was now on us to keep him well fed and well rested and well settled.. Kiddo proved to good trooper.. He loved the bike rides through which he would invariably fall asleep..He tried different cuisine at the various places that we stopped over and was overall majorly co operative though he insisted on being carried only by me all the time..As he was happy..overall we all were happy..

Day 1:

We started off the trip with an adventure..M , kiddo and I  did a late check in with my colleague R's family and the boarding gates got closed.. We could not check in our luggages and had to tow them to the air craft on the own. Thankfully as we were traveling with kids, we got escorted till boarding. It was around 7 am on a Sunday morning when we landed Goa. It was a beautiful morning with pinkish hues. The ride from the airport to the the hotel at Calangute in the cab was so scenic. The harbor, the dock, the sea and the up and down roads that led to North Goa had its many beautiful sights which are stored for eternity in the recesses of my mind..

We checked in early to the hotel and were not provided rooms.. So most of my morning was spent at the hotel restaurant feeding and freshening up kiddo. Then when we got our bike, we pushed out to a Church.. We were the first to reach the church in our group and that was the only place that I visited with my colleagues as group..Since then kiddo, M and I kinda drifted to a different direction.. Post the church visit we explored the streets around it.. For lunch, M took us to an awesome restaurant "Ritz Classic". It was the first place where I tried a pan fried mussel served in the Goan way..

We then rode back to the hotel and we had planned for the Candolim beach for the evening.. Again here we reached slightly earlier than the rest of my colleagues .. So just for keeping kiddo occupied we ordered some starters in  a local beach side restaurant. It was a quaint European themed beach restaurant cum bar..I fed kiddo french fries, let him play with the cocktail glass umbrella, took in sips of the awesome pine apple mock tail , breathed in the fresh beach breeze and in general let time stand still.. Candolim beach was the first place where I saw beach side tattoos and hookah..It is such a pretty sight on a full moon night .. With a kid however , we were slightly anxious to not spend too much time there and we just headed back to the hotel.. I put kiddo to sleep around 10 pm and then caught up my colleagues on their pool side dinner hoping that next day , I would get to spend more time with them..

Day 2 :

Prior the actual visit, our group had booked tickets for water sports activity on Day 2 in the Baga beach.. Kiddo had woken up early so I was anticipating that he would sleep of by the time we would reach the water sport venue.. Nature however had other plans.. The tide was high in the oceans and the waves were angrily kicking in the shore.. So our water sport activities for the day got cancelled.. It was a sunny morning around 10:00 am.. I had rushed through a fast breakfast so that I can be in on time.. And then this happened!! So I checked in a beach shack with the view of the angry ocean. I ordered myself toast, fried eggs and a Jamaican breezer and settled down with the sleeping kid.. My colleagues were all ready to explore the next beach.. but by then I had not much energy to rush around.. I finished off breakfast calmly and then stopped over for shopping.. I did a fish spa and M got hats and shorts..

We were back to the hotel around 3 in the evening and that was the time I saw my other colleague R starting to Chapora fort with his kid and wife.. The rest of the team had already pushed off and I really wanted to do this place.. M was slightly wary and tired .. R and I kinda pushed M for another 45 mins ride and I can tell you that the ride was totally worth it.. When we reached the fort, it was a steep uphill climb for at least 9-10 mins. Kiddo had  slept off again.. So it was on the M to carry him uphill. There were many moments when he wanted to give up..But R pushed in to go further till we made to the top.. The rocky hill , the ancient fort , the yellow grass and the silver grey ocean on a windy day was so surreal.. It is here when cyclone Ockhi gave us a mini thrill.. Suddenly there was a gust of wind and the sand and the rocks were up in the air... The kids started to get super cranky..Black clouds were making their way towards us.. M  being him insisted  that we should do the downhill immediately.. Kiddo woke up and I was simply trying to shield kiddo's eyes from the wind and the sand and trying to contact the rest of the group.. As the phone network was poor, and the weather getting dangerous we then decided to go downhill.. Then a  slight drizzle started.. I had only carried a small hand bag with minimum essentials and was super anxious that kiddo should not catch a cold.. Half way through our ride back on my insistence, we stopped over on a road side bar for shelter till the drizzle subsided.. On our ride back kiddo was awake.. I figured out a friendly way of seating him on the two wheeler for long rides- with his face facing my chest and legs on either side of the bike.. We talked with each other in baby language about the green fields, coconut trees, the tamarind trees and the pretty homes and churches that were on our way back to the hotel..

Post Chapora fort we still had the Calangute beach to cover.. We both would have preferred staying back in the hotel..But as we had still got to do dinner some where outside , we started off to the beach. I was wondering why Calangute beach was having  a narrow entrance as per Google maps.. Later on we realized that we ended up going to a private beach of a resort hotel.. I gave the direction now and I suggested M to move towards the lights of the restaurant.. This restaurant was a fairy tale come true for me.. It had a live band of soft rock, the waiters were ushering in guests in their evening finery.. There was a lovely garden lit up with fairy lights knitted through the pink and green foliage of the bougainvillea.Candles were lit at every table.. The apple crumble ice cream, passion fruit panacotta and the hot chocolate drink I had was so yummy ..  M and I took turns to take care of kiddo and have food.. By the time we finished dinner it would have been 9 pm.. We bought  fluorescent bangles for kiddo and made way back to the hotel through the moon lit avenue.. We shopped few dresses and in the hotel, I dropped in to catch up with colleagues. Here kiddo threw a super tantrum.. I took him back to room, fed him oranges, banana and milk and around 10: 30 pm he drifted to sleep.

Day 3:

We woke up late this day!! Around 8:00 am.. My colleague R had already started to Panjim to visit the church.. The rest of the team was starting when I headed down for breakfast.. It was predicted that this day would have drizzle and rains all day.. So M and I decided to visit places only in 5 km radius.. I dressed up in the typical Goan style with dresses got in the Calangute beach and donned a beach hat. We visited a  local church only to find it closed.. We took many pictures and absorbed the beauty of the place.. We checked out a local art gallery and got T shirt and funky badges in a designer studio.

And then the inevitable happened.. It rained ! M got super drenched.. We stopped over on way back to the hotel to get bananas for kiddo and it rained again!! We dropped in a local German bakery to take in rest and calm down an angry kiddo who lost his fluorescent bangles in the hurry to get shelter from the rains.. Kiddo created enough havoc in the bakery to throw us out.. Thankfully the rains stopped and M being the person whom he is got us banana walnut cake and mango cheese cake through all the confusion.. In the hotel, I fed kiddo cake, pomegranate and bananas and gorged through bites of the awesome mango cheese cake.. We still had not taken our lunch.. M had discovered "Anand Sagar" - A Bombay styled Udupi restaurant.. We had yummy masala dosa and pav bhaji.. Unfortunately kiddo refused a bite of any of this food and was super cranky for sleep. Thankfully we finished off lunch soon and pushed back to the hotel to take some rest.

In the first couple of days, I fed kiddo some rotis packed by MIL , snacks and fruits brought from Chennai. By the last day evening, my reserves got depleted. I was not very happy in the way kiddo had taken in food on the last day.. Again thanks to M- he found out this wonderful restaurant for dinner- "South". The spread was traditional coastal cuisine.. I ordered myself a crab soup and kiddo vegetable stew and appam..M had ordered stuffed egg dosa and traditional Goan style chicken curry for himself.. Kiddo gorged on all the vegetables in the stew and I was very happy as the vegetables very clean, beautiful, well cooked and non spicy - just like home food for kiddo. I took appam and chicken curry.  Post dinner, we shopped for cashews for home , sweets for M's workplace friends and souvenirs for my mom and bro. We then returned back to hotel and I fed kiddo biscuits and milk and put him to sleep. Then M and I packed our bags for the journey back home.

Day 4:

We woke up around 4 am.. My colleagues have thoughtfully booked a tempo for the journey to the airport.. Kiddo had slept like a baby till we boarded the flight.. All hell broke loose when we were landing.. Here we had a cranky kid who had not had his morning milk and is hungry..and on top of it..he wanted to move around in the flight.. When the flight was descending he started getting pain in his ears.. I tried distracting him by feeding muruku..All in vain..He finally he pulled my hair and  bit my lips much to my embarrassment in front of all my colleagues.. Thankfully the flight landed..We were the first to whisk out our luggages out of the baggage counter.. We bid adieu to my colleagues. Mom and Dad were waiting to receive us at the airport. And happily with beautiful memories, we headed back home.

After the Break

When i started blogging i simply couldnot get my hands of it like how a guy feels when he is newly married..Times have changed and i reached mid-life crisis and i stayed away from this online space as other priorities took precedence..I have personally grown up a bit in this span of 12 months in which blogging has taken a back seat.I have read lots blogs!
IHM,RM,shail,CyberNag,Ritu,seema,Rays,pepper,TheEra,Lifeslittletwists,GreenBoochi,Preethi,gappa,aquarianlady,Swaram
were few places in which i lurked and haunted! All the archives were read, dissected, loved though not much expressed..

Though the names quoted here are few and there are lot more that i have read and enjoyed i have listed these few blogs in particular  as they have changed my perspective and the way i look at life to a larger extent..I have come out of few narrow perceptions and assumptions that has been socially conditioned in me..I have learnt not to judge people and accept them as they are as we do not know what each person's journey is about.I have become receptive to a larger subset of people with various mindsets.I have also learnt that blogging can be used as a platform to find like minded friends...

Concluding with a short sweet story sent to me via mail by a colleague.

A 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted…
.
“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”
.
Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed…
.
“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”
.
.
.
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man…
.
“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”
.
.
The old man smiled and said…
.
“I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.”

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Dear Mom,

I love the tomato curry, small potatoes, grean peas combo  and omelet that you make..
I love the way u lose ur temper and get a secret delight in making you mad..
I love the way you care for me and would  tease and test your patience..
I love the way you fall for the tall stories that i would make up and would make wilder ones ..
 Love always,

Making Sense through nonsense

This is hw i work..Confused typical me..Search and collect tons and tons of data..Have a large database..The sheer enormity of the data will threaten me..Will keep wondering how less my knowledge is..And there is soooo much to learn..

Half way down the mess of large data collection..Will get wearied..Will relax..Read Blogs, have coffee..go 2 rounds to the rest room..complain..

Then the deadline pressures will pull me..I will convince ppl to wait as this gr8 intellectual product of mine will come around..
Will hope desperately that those odd pieces of the jigsaw puzzle matches. And then finally race..Do spell chk..All fancy work..tell ppl..Arrange for the presentation..

Then all ovr..Will wonder y i do work in such a sloppy manner and vow to do it better next time..Always repeating the same cycle..

To the Towers

It is almost 7 months since coming to Hyderabad..Am looking out of the glass windows of our new office..We can see a hum of activity below..Being in a new place sometimes heightens my senses..I kinda keep observing some taken for granted scenes in my comfort zone..

One side are towering buildings, smart sassy young IT professionals making their way to work..One the other side are sprawling slums where the wifes of construction workers wash their kids and clothes at the doorstep of their homes..I was wondering what would be the dreams of the kid of the slums..To live and work on the towers rite?? And what do those young cute kids of the towers do? They do OUTSOURCED junk work of their foreign bosses..Am putting this article especially in context of the liberalization of the retail sector up to 51% in India... Am not against outsourcing..But outsourcing is shifting our focus from being nation builders to slave workers of a west.A BPO worker gets paid well. But where is his career? He has money to buy fancy stuff..But question is what skills has he developed so that he would have the same earning capacity or more when he greys..In what way is he using his capabilities and his education to be a complete person?

Outsourcing will be healthy only when more and more Indians learn the concepts from the West adapt it to the Indian context. There is a long way for us to go..

From the Earth to the Sky

Hello Everybody, I generally do not like putting up other people's articles here..But somehow this story is new and interesting to me..So would like to share it with u all..By the ways..It is a story of a Sunflower..
My wife, daughter, and I moved into our home nine years ago and we spent a lot of time and energy in the yard to get it looking like it does today. We live on a corner, higher than street level, and the entire side of the yard is encased by a professionally built rock wall. The front of the house though is another story because instead of a wall along the sidewalk the rocks appear to be just thrown up onto the dirt as if someone were in a hurry to finish.

We did the best we could with what we had to work with and called this area our 'rock garden'. Whenever we had left over flowers or plants, Denise or I would stick them out front, just to bring some color to the area.

I still do all of my own yard work, even the dreaded weed-pulling. After putting on my knee pads I assume the position to clear the yard of weeds, even in the rock garden.

Last summer I had reached the end of the rock garden and found a tiny little plant that I could not immediately identify. I knew I didn't plant it and Denise claimed that she didn't either. We decided to let it continue growing until we could figure out what it was.

Weeks passed and as I made my way back to the mystery plant, it appeared to be a Sunflower. It was spindly looking with a tall skinny stalk and only one head on it. I decided to baby it along and weed around it. As I pulled rocks from the area to get to the weeds, I noticed something unusual. The Sunflower had not started where I saw the stalk begin. It actually had begun under a big rock and grown under and around it to reach the sun.

That's when I realized that if a tiny little Sunflower didn't let a big rock stand in its way of developing, we too have the capability of doing the same thing. Once our environment begins to see that we believe in ourselves like that little Sunflower, we can attain the same nourishment and nurturing as well.

Girl Power!!

A few years ago, she was a teenage-mother, living off scraps and out of a car. Today, she is pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Public Policy at the Harvard University. Besides, she is also the author of the book Financial Education for Lower-Income Audiences: A guide to Programme Design, Implementation and Evaluation which is found in the libraries of various US colleges and b-schools.

I wanted my son to be proud of me and I thought no better way than to study and get myself some real degrees. Harvard was just an illusion when I stayed on the streets and went to sleep hungry. Today, I am right there," said Lalita Booth while speaking from the US.

Lalita's story makes good sense because she is also probably one of the few who has been awarded some 20 scholarships in the last five years -- worth a whopping half a million US dollars.

All the world's a stage!!

Am putting up the article after reading lallu akka's article on the various masks and identities that we wear and reflecting back on my own journey..Once a school kid, then a happy go lucky college goer, then a home maker and an employee in an organisation..So the drama unfolds..

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

Whatever You Give To Life, Life Gives You Back!!

If you water a plant for a couple of days a hundred times you will not be nurturing it..You will be killing it..If you water the same plant only twice..But for hundred days it will blossom..Dumb plants teach life!!!

Likewise only if we plant a rose plant we can get roses..
* If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness
* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective
* If you plant hard work, you will reap success
* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation

Sometimes the fruits of good actions are not visible immediately..Does not mean that the plant will not bear flower..But it needs much more time to mature...To have life as a bed of beautiful flowers or a bed of weeds is man's choice!!

பேருந்து கதைகள்

Public transportation system i considered as quite a challenge in Chennai itself.. Coming to Hyderabad came to understand the peculiarities and skills required to address the transportation system in India which i didn't realize in Chennai.System in Hyderabad is pretty organized..Ladies in the front and Guys at back all strictly followed.. A couple of seats reserved for the senior citizens and disabled..However the capacity is heavily over utilized.. Ultimately people get packed so much that as a result it is bodies jammed together..U need not balance for support when u are standing and the driver puts a sudden brake..U will be held safely in right place sandwiched between humanity..School kids with heavy bags, pretty office girls with the hijab artfully tossed in their shoulders, workers, ladies taking large baskets of vegetables and fruits to the market..It is a mixture of babble of different tongues, a motley of color and odor.

If u are a regular commuter u would adhere to the following rules religiously..

Rule 1 - Know the exact timings of the buses reaching your bus stop.By careful observance u mite find a less crowded one following a more crowded bus.

Rule 2 - Rite positioning so that u are the first person to board.

Rule 3 - Say good bye to courtesy..Push, jostle, scream , make a fuss..Make urself comfortable..

Rule 4 - Enjoy the experience..What cannot cured should be endured!!

Swimming in Thought

For some people Dogs have a charm..A few cats..Some Birds..I have a relative whoo grew exotic birds as a hobby..For me it was one fish and he was called Danny..He met with an accident and was replaced by Jaadhu..That fellow also joined Danny in fish heaven..Finding Nemo still tops the charts of my most favorite movie..Swimming in such thots I came across one fascinating article which captivated my attention..A marine fish that is grown in an aquarium of 5*5 m (which is quite a big size for an aquarium)when put back into the ocean limits itself within a 5*5 dimension!!

Same applies to human mind...When u r confined within walls at one point the human mind believes that life within walls is the world!!If one wants to be a fish in the ocean one has to break down the walls he has built with his own prejudices and fear..Then the mysteries and joys of the ocean is for him to enjoy!!

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection ;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the
dreary desert sand of dead habit ;Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever- widening thought and action……..
Into the heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

First Impressions of de new city..

Today is the first month anniversary of me coming to Hyderabad as a newly wed..One month is not enuf to get the rite perception of de city..And also as am at home 4 de larger part of de day tryin to fit into de role of a model home maker(which i know i wont make),i cannot tell tat "THIS is Hyd"..But still there are certain first impressions of de city which i would like to share.

*The entire city is dry and surrounded by rocky mountains..
*Hyderabadi biriyani is measured in large quantity oly..So next time will have to order one biriyani for 3 ppl..
*The cock crows day in and day out..Even at two o clock in the afternoon..
*Its कबूतरें all over..Especially at old Hyderabad near the charminar and the mosque..The very sight of the birds taking off to flight in unison is so beautiful. All is well except de hard fact tat they keep dirtying their place wid droppings..There have been doves in my mdu too..One family near our bed room AC and a few by our flat. But here the कबूतरें number is equal to the number of crows in mdu.
*There are too many beef, mutton and chicken shops tat stink in such a way tat u decide to give up non-veg for life.
*The market is colourful, full of life and the price of veggies are really reasonable though there is not much variety available.
*Share autos are awfully crowded and the buses are all thagaradabba!!
*Traffic police men are young and cute but they traffic is hardly regulated..Motorcyclists rule the road zooming past at top speed.
*People are less helpful and ruder wen compared to Tamilnadu.
*The malls here outnumber those in Chennai.
The gardens are well maintained and there are quite a gud number taking into account the size of the city.
*The temples are a mix of South Indian and North Indian Architecture..
*Temples here are dedicated to specific purposes..To go abroad..To do pooja 4 vehicles etc..
*In certain sections of the city Hindi and Urdu is spoken but not telungu!

Lot more to tell..But these are first impressions!!

De pleasure pain principle..

"Did you ever say yes to a pleasure?
Oh my friends, then you also said yes to all pain.
All things are linked, entwined, in love with one another."
"What does not kill me, makes me stronger."
