How safe we are??

A couple of days back NDTV gave a flash news that 39 soverigns of gold has been stolen from Anna University staff quarters..The news was a gr8 shock to me as i considered the campus to be pretty safe..Talking to some staff members revealed an alarming fact that breaking into staff quarters is pretty common..One staff told that his own house has been graced by the visit of robbers thrice!!!!Reporting to the kotturpuram police station has elicted no response..

Once a security personal (an old man) caught a guy on the act of sneaking and wen he clutched the rouge's throat five to six men armed with sticks and knives appeared from nowhere!!!.."Naama varuvom povom but avangalukku( for the thugs) permanent residency namma university thaan" told one proffesor with a smile.

Last semester one of my professors chased a thief stealing a bike..Few days after that incident a couple of laptops were reported lost..An occassional chain snatching outside the college is pretty common..I considered them as stray incidents..Now only do i realize that the situation is going beyond control..

The management is indeed taking baby steps.One significant investment is the installation of cameras all around the campus.But thats not enough..Greater awareness and co ordination among all the inmates of the university is required to fight this problem..Something has to be done before insecurity becomes a way of life here..Lets make a beginning..
