To the Towers

It is almost 7 months since coming to Hyderabad..Am looking out of the glass windows of our new office..We can see a hum of activity below..Being in a new place sometimes heightens my senses..I kinda keep observing some taken for granted scenes in my comfort zone..

One side are towering buildings, smart sassy young IT professionals making their way to work..One the other side are sprawling slums where the wifes of construction workers wash their kids and clothes at the doorstep of their homes..I was wondering what would be the dreams of the kid of the slums..To live and work on the towers rite?? And what do those young cute kids of the towers do? They do OUTSOURCED junk work of their foreign bosses..Am putting this article especially in context of the liberalization of the retail sector up to 51% in India... Am not against outsourcing..But outsourcing is shifting our focus from being nation builders to slave workers of a west.A BPO worker gets paid well. But where is his career? He has money to buy fancy stuff..But question is what skills has he developed so that he would have the same earning capacity or more when he greys..In what way is he using his capabilities and his education to be a complete person?

Outsourcing will be healthy only when more and more Indians learn the concepts from the West adapt it to the Indian context. There is a long way for us to go..
